Web Design Workshop.  (Ages 10 - 14)

Build you own Web site with graphics, pictures, sound effects and video clips.  The Build-It-Yourself Web Design Workshop will introduce you to tools that will make your Web sites jump off the screen and make your friends say, "Wow, how did you do that?"  You'll be learning from an experienced team of graphic designers and computer programmers many of whom are Harvard and MIT students.  

By the end of the workshop, each team of Web site designers will have created a multi-page Web site complete with navigation, pictures, videos

Goals:

At the end of the class, students will be able to:
1) Explain how key components of Internet and Web work.
2) Set up tools and file structure to develop a Web site
3) Write HTML code that includes tables, images and links.
4) Optimize images
5) FTP files to a Web server
6) Develop and present a custom Web site

Tools Required:

Hardware and software required:
1 Windows 98+ or Mac OSX computer with high-speed connection to the Internet with:
- Webcam
- Screen projector
- Webcast software
- Digital camera
- R/W memory device or network connection
(Build-It-Yourself can loan a Windows computer if it can be connected to the Internet.) 

1 computer per 4 students with:
- Power Point
- Paint tool  (download freeware or trials, Paint Shop Pro, Photoshop Elements) 
- Text Editor (download freeware)
- FTP client (download freeware)
- R/W memory device or network connection
