The Problem:
Human receptionists are expensive. ($34,000 average salary plus 60% overhead)
   In addition, human receptionists can be unreliable or badly trained.

Our Mission:
Build a robotic receptionist that is:
1) cost effective.
2) useful.
3)
friendly.

Class Goals:
1) Build a prototype that gets media attention.
2) Develop skills that help 90% of the class get a job or go to college.

Deliverables:
1) Working Prototype
2) Lab Book
3) Web Site
4) Presentation

Functional Specification:
R4D4 welcomes and serves visitors by:
1) Offering school information.
2) Telling jokes.
3) Playing games.
4) Dispensing candy.

R4D4 can speak English and Spanish.

The Process:

Students work on teams.  Stacey, Leury and Alan are making entries in their Power Point Lab Book.

Students must use Google to research, Excel to report progress, Power Point to record ideas, Word to write a functional specification, Robolab and Excel to control the robot, and an HTML text editor plus Photoshop to present their work online.

The Build-It-Yourself Global Laboratory
Using a 2-way audio / video Webcast platform, students collaborate with specialists from around the world.
