The Structure
The base was made of simple parts such as wood, nails, and a wooden box. The purpose of the base is to hold the Robotic Receptionist, the candy dispenser and the reflex game. While building the base we learned how to plan and build a wooden structure.
The Face
The face was made from many materials. The base of the head and face are made from pieces of wood. The actual face was made from a piece of wood, motors, and gears from a previous project we had done earlier in the year. The eyes were made from bottlecaps and the nose were made out of foam. The lips were made from a cover of a peanut cup and a piece of foam. The hat consist of a metal lamp cover, a circuit board glued to it, and an egg beater with a working LED in the middle. In the back of the head and face, is a gear train made of lego parts, which enables the head to turn and face the person that he is helping. The gear train also allows the mouth to move up and down. There are screws on both sides of the head to limit to how much the head can turn. We tried to make this head not to only look like a robot, but to make it look as user friendly as possible.
The Reflex Game
The reflex game was made from a long piece of wood, legos, a processing block, wire, screws, and some foam for the arm and hand. The game was made so that when the LED blinks then stops, you have to get your hand on the target before the robot does. Depending upon whether or not you win , a sound wave is played. If you win, you get a prize from the candy dispenser. We made the reflex game so that a person can be entertained while waiting to be brought to their destination.
The Candy Dispenser
The candy dispenser has a base made out of wood. The remaining parts of the candy dispenser are made with two screws and legos. When a person wins the reflex game, a sound wave is played, the gears in the dispenser turn, and the shaft of it goes foward and pushes out a piece of candy. The candy dispenser was made as a way of rewarding people with a piece of candy who win the reflex game.
